Virtual sandbox. Why Roblox is dangerous for children?
Roblox, one of the most popular platforms among children and teenagers, is not just a collection of games but a complex multiplayer ecosystem with inherent serious risks. These threats are systemic and stem from the platform's architecture, which combines user-generated content, social interaction, and monetization. Understanding these risks is essential for ensuring the digital safety of the younger generation. Uncontrolled User-Generated Content and "Gray Zones" The fundamental danger of the platform lies in its user-generated content model. Every day, thousands of new games-"experiences" are published on Roblox, which are impossible to fully and promptly check. Although the company uses automatic filters and moderator teams, games with inappropriate content regularly appear in this stream. A child may accidentally enter a virtual space where scenes of violence are simulated, sexualized avatars are widespread, or there is disturbing and frightening symbolism disguised under innocent titles and descriptions. These so-called "condenser" or "cave" games are created to bypass filters and represent a trap for an unprepared user. Social Interactions and the Threat of Contact with Strangers Roblox is positioned as a social platform, which implies the possibility of communication between players. The built-in chat, even with censorship, and the system of private messages are channels that can be used by malicious individuals. There is a practice of "grooming," where an adult person, pretending to be a peer, gains the trust of a child to extract personal information, encourage open conversations, or convince them to switch to less secure communication platforms.
