A modern child is scheduled minute by minute. School, tutors, sports, music, drawing. Parents are afraid that without additional activities, he will "fall behind" or "be worse than others". In this race, the simple truth is completely forgotten: a child should have free time. The right to play, to do nothing, to be bored is enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is not a luxury, but a necessity for normal development.
When a child is left to himself, he learns to plan. He decides himself: to play with Lego, read, or just lie on the sofa. This develops independence and responsibility. It is precisely in free play that imagination is formed, the ability to get out of conflicts (in role-playing games) comes. Without free time, children grow up anxious, unable to occupy themselves without gadgets.
Parents are afraid of the word "I'm bored". They immediately turn on the tablet or take them to a circle. But boredom is the engine of creativity. It is precisely when there is nothing to do that a child comes up with a spaceship from a box. A packed schedule does not leave time for such inventions. The result is a decrease in cognitive flexibility.
According to pediatricians' recommendations, a child aged 7-10 should have at least 2-3 hours of complete freedom a day (not counting sleep and walks). This time he spends on games, communicating with friends, his hobbies. Unfortunately, the average modern schoolchild has no more than 1 hour, if you subtract homework and circles. Many parents consider only English and robotics to be "useful", and building a house of chairs to be nonsense. This is a mistake.
Include "empty slots" in the schedule. Do not plan every hour. Learn to say "no" to tutors and sections if you see that the child is overloaded. Set an example: turn off the phone and do nothing (read, look out the window). Play with children in their games (without lectures). Remember: you can finish the lessons tomorrow, but you can't get back stolen childhood.
Free time is not wasted time. It is an investment in mental health, creativity, and a happy future life.
